The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis will debut Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design on March 22, 2025, as part of its 100th anniversary celebration. The exhibit highlights Carter’s 40-year career as an Academy Award-winning costume designer, showcasing over 60 of her original costumes from films like Black Panther, Selma, and Do The Right Thing, along with personal artifacts such as her childhood sewing machine and hand-drawn sketches. Carter’s work embodies Afrofuturism, a movement blending African culture, Black history, science fiction, and technology to reimagine a future where Black people thrive. The museum partnered with GANGGANG and the Madam Walker Legacy Center to honor Black artistic contributions and introduce young audiences to Afrofuturism’s creative and cultural significance. Ravenswood Studio is proud to be a fabrication partner for this project.
